Pride is a big problem. Especially in the United States. For some reason, we all think we can do it ourselves. And it starts early. Parents are often told by their toddlers, "No! I do it!" Doesn't matter that their fingers can't manage the buttons or snaps or whatever it is they're trying to accomplish. They want the bragging rights and sense of accomplishment. But sometimes, we can't do it by ourselves. Several times in our life, my husband and I have found our financial situation, to put it mildly, out of control. The bills come in faster than the paychecks, and nothing is in balance. And the stress levels rise. And that's usually when something else breaks.
Did you see my post a few weeks ago about how I'm trying to remember to trust God? He keeps reminding me He's still there, and is still taking care of us. Sometimes, we'll get an unexpected check from somewhere. Or handed a gift from a friend who knows what we're going through. And I have to swallow my pride and give them all the thanks I can, knowing I can't repay it. But you know what? If I don't accept it or if I tried to repay it, I'd be ruining something else. Because by helping us out, they're showing God's love. And if I refuse that, not only am I ruining the blessing they're giving me, but I'm refusing to let them be God's hands and be used by Him. Have you ever thought of that? When we turn down help, not only are we allowing our pride to win, but we're taking away a blessing from someone else, too. That doesn't make it easier, necessarily. But it's a great thought to keep in mind. Because someday, when our finances are in a better position, I hope someone else will let me help them out like I've been helped in the past. Have you been blessed to be used by God before? Or have you been blessed by those who helped you through a rough time? God gave us each other to get through this world a little easier. Don't forget to accept His blessings in every way they come.

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
