Almost every girl dreams of receiving flowers at work. Especially if brought especially by the one giving them. Right? Well, I happened to witness this happen to one of my coworkers a couple weeks ago. At the end of the workday, I was teasing her. "So, how do I get my husband to bring me flowers at work?" She wrinkled her nose. "Have a big fight?" Oh. Um, no thank you. Before she said that, the jealous monster was poking me in the side, reminding me that I hardly ever have something like that happen to me, making me wonder if I'll even get something for Valentine's day.
The other part of me, my muse, because it's never on vacation, was thinking about writing a story about someone who received flowers every day from Feb 1 through Valentine's, and pondering all the fun that could bring. (It might still happen). But when she gave the actual reason he was bringing her flowers, everything else fell away. After all, we enjoy receiving flowers. But not for THAT reason. Isn't it funny how something can appear one way on the outside and then when you dig in deeper and find the root of the matter, it's something completely different? A lot of things in life are like that--not just flowers. We see the pretty side others want us to see, but if we look a little deeper, we realize all is not as great as it seems. This world isn't perfect. Nothing in it is. And while it has lots of lovely things, there are lots of not-so-lovely things too. So, the next time you start fighting jealousy or wishing you were in someone else's shoes, maybe just count the blessings already in your own life. There are plenty of them, I'm sure, roses or otherwise. Have you ever misjudged a happenstance and wished it would happen to you only to find out it wasn't what you thought? Do you wish you could receive roses at work?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
