![]() Do you ever find yourself doing things the hard way? Or even just forgetting about a tool of some sort that would make it easier? I sometimes do. I'll be most of the way done with a project of some sort and then remember a tool I had stashed away that would've made things go much faster. Or kept me from burning/poking/etc my fingers. Pretty sure the ends of my fingers are completely numb forever now from all I've put them through. But, one set of tools I don't forget about it, is my turning tools for sewing. Yes, they look like metal tubes and pointy wires, but they're brilliant for turning things right-side out after sewing them up. I used them a few weeks ago when I was making apron ties. Before I had these handy-dandy metal contraptions, I would have to use a safety pin and wiggle it through the fabric, hoping it didn't come open halfway through, working it centimeter by centimeter back to the way I needed it. Now, I simple slide the tube in, wiggle the wire through and hook it to the fabric, and gently tug it until it's flipped. Voila! But if you're like me, there isn't a tool like that to make every part of our life easy. For instance, I still have to weed my gardens every few weeks the old-fashioned way--by getting on my knees and removing the unwanted plants. I still have to cook and do dishes and laundry and vacuum occasionally. That being said, we do have tools to make those things easier--like dishwashers and automatic washing machines and vacuums that plug in the wall and do most of the work for us. I don't know what I'd do if I had to beat my rugs by hand.
So, why do we make other parts of our life harder than they have to be? What parts? How about the parts where we grow closer to God? Wait a minute. Is there a tool that makes that easier? Yes, as a matter of fact, there is. It's called a Bible. And if we don't use the tool at all, listening to the words God literally gave us, how can we get anywhere in that relationship? It would be harder than trying to wiggle a safety pin through fabric when it's popped open. Not an easy task. So, do you use all the tools you have at your disposal to make things easier in your life? Or are you trying to turn fabric without the help of a metal tube? What other tools can you think of that make life easier?
