What do you do when the AC can't keep up with the heat? You call your AC guy, right? We had already had our guy out to clean the unit and make sure everything was good to go. He said it all looked great. So, my house should not have been 83 degrees when it was set to 77. And rising. He came that afternoon. Looked around. Said the unit was working. Crawled under the house. And that's when he found it. Most of the insulation on our ductwork was off. It was old and had rotted and fallen down and was doing nothing now, so most of the cool air was staying down in the crawl space instead of actually blowing into our house. But wait. There's more. While he was down there repairing the insulation, he found something else. An even bigger problem. At least three different places had come completely loose and were simply blowing into the crawl space instead of being attached to blow into the house.
With a bit more work and a lot of effort, he's gotten everything repaired and reinsulated and our house is so much more comfortable. Not only that, but our bills should be a little less harsh this summer because the unit won't have to work as hard to keep the house cool. But, like everything in life, it got me to thinking. Don't we do that, too? Let little things come in and remove our "insulation" so that all our energy and effort goes to the wrong place instead of where it's supposed to be? Even things that can be good could eventually cause problems. When I allow something to take over a big chunk of my time, it doesn't leave the brainpower, energy, or even patience to deal with my family like I should. When I allow myself to read something else, but don't find at least half an hour for the Bible everyday, I'm not giving my brain the power it needs to be able to fight the battles life throws at me. And I could go on, but you get the idea. We have to make sure our "insulation" is in place (God's armor), and that we don't have leaks (time-sucking tasks that steal us away from more important items), so that everything else will work easier in our lives, too. Because no one wants to live in an overheated house. Or an overstressed body. How do you make sure your ductwork is in order?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
