Everyone has favorites. A favorite drink, a favorite show, a favorite author (or five or six), favorite snacks, favorite shirts, you get the idea. I'm no different. For the last couple of years, Aldi has carried this tea concentrate for one week--although it's really only a couple of days because it sells out so fast. Needless to say, as soon as I see it in the ads, I run over and grab a few boxes for myself. I adore London Fog. It's an Earl Grey tea latte and is super yummy. Here's the deal. I haven't even opened it yet. I love it. I want to drink it. But I'm saving it. Saving it for what? I have no idea. Honestly. No idea.
I do the same thing with homemade salsa or my home-grown green beans and squash. I diligently pick them and can them, and then I won't let myself touch them because I know they're so much better than anything I could buy at a store. So, I save them. It doesn't make sense. I mean, am I really getting enjoyment out of having them on my shelves? Okay, maybe a little. But not as much as I would if I'd open up that jar and eat the beautiful things. Yes, I will run out of them one day and have to go back to store-bought (assuming the stores aren't out of them at that time). But is that really that bad? I mean, doesn't that mean I will just appreciate the ones I grow next year even more? I wonder what other things in life I do that with. Not books. If I get a book from one of my favorite authors, pretty much everything else takes a back seat for a few days while I read it. And not with my favorite shirts. I catch myself wearing the same four or five over and over again. God blessed me with this yummy food. It's my job to savor it and thank Him for it and then appreciate it even more when I haven't been able to have it for a while. Do you do this with anything? What are some of your favorites?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
