I don't know about you, but our house has been plagued by germs lately. That's right. The big evil C word finally caught us after two years of avoiding it. Needless to say, there's been much handwashing and cleaning going on. And not very much kissing. Nope. My husband and I learned long ago that kissing while one or the other of us is sick is not a good idea. Not if we want us both to be well sooner rather than later. Even worse, this all happened over the week before Valentine's. When we usually celebrate being together for the last twenty-one years (dating). So, how unromantic is that?
Well, for one thing, there's more to romance than kissing. In fact, I've even read romances that didn't have a kiss. And they were still romantic. Why? Because a kiss is the result of romance, not a part of it. And in our life, there are so many other ways to show we love each other, especially in a crazy busy time of year with two young children. Like when he makes sure the oil diffuser is ready to run all night for me because he knows it helps my stuffy nose. Or when I make sure to pick up one of his favorite meals for dinner, something we don't always get to eat because of the price. It can be when he volunteers to stay home with sick kids and let me get out of the house by myself for a few minutes (yes, even being apart can be romantic). Or just sitting together and soaking up the silence after bedtime, having survived another day together. Loading the dishwasher. Carrying out the over-full trash bag. Picking up a grocery order because you're out anyway. Tons of little things that add up to a lot of big feelings. And then, when the germs are gone, you can thank each other with a kiss! Do you ever have to find nonconventional ways to be romantic? What's your favorite way to show affection that isn't kissing (keep it clean, please)?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
