So many people forget that marriage vows include the phrase "in sickness," but fellow author Jenny McLeod Carlisle is living it. Read on as she talks about how well her husband is taking care of her after surgery. And the little surprise he came up with for her, too.
Today’s dilemma was coming up with a solution for a shower for me. We have discovered that our walk-in shower is not as accessible as we thought it was. My husband decided to outfit the guest bathroom shower with a hand-held device that would make this task easier for me. So, he was off to the local hardware and home improvement center. What came home with him proves that he understands me so very well. I knew that scheduling this surgery during the month of December would change my enjoyment of my favorite holiday. I love everything about Christmas, and my home has been decorated since before Thanksgiving. I spend most of my day at the foot of my fully decorated tree. It is so comforting to have familiar memories nearby all day. This year, I scaled down quite a bit, just because decorating involves numerous trips back and forth, moving things, changing things until they suit me just right. One detail that got overlooked was the centerpiece for my kitchen table. My red tablecloth looked great, but rather bland. Enter, my knight in shining armor. He returned with the perfect decoration, a vintage red pickup loaded with the family’s Christmas tree. Perfect! Especially since my husband happens to drive a red pickup truck. His thoughtful gesture brightened my dining room table and put my Christmas spirit back on track. The shower device will help me for the next few weeks, but this special little red truck will make me smile for years to come! Jenny McLeod Carlisle has been writing stories since she learned to hold a pencil. She retired from a career in Human Resources for the State of Arkansas. She was a long-time columnist for Ouachita Life magazine, and two collections of her inspirational articles have been self-published. She is past president of American Christian Fiction Writers – Arkansas Chapter and past president of Saline County Preservation, Inc. Her first fiction project, “Hope Takes the Reins” is scheduled for release from Scrivenings Press in March of 2022. She and her husband, James live in Benton, Arkansas where they worship with a very active congregation of the Church of Christ. They are the parents of three married children and eight grandchildren. She enjoys substituting a few days a week in middle school, junior high and high school classrooms. Follow her here for further news and notes on her writing.

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
