On my wall, I have a shadow box filled with knickknacks and breakables. Quite a few of the pieces are connected to memories because they were bought as a gift for a certain occasion. Others are just things I liked. A few more were gifts from friends and loved ones. Here's the deal. My four-year-old jumps ALL THE TIME right now. And our house shakes with every single leap he makes. Which rattles the walls. This scoots things out toward the edge. So, every so often, my husband or I reach up and push a piece back to keep it from falling and getting hurt. And, as I thought about this, I thought about other aspects of my life where I have to do the same. Maybe nothing big, but little things in my life where I swear I'm going to do better, but then find myself falling back into old patterns.
Occasionally, it's my daily Bible reading, although I've trained myself over the years to be fairly faithful to that. Every now and then, a day is so busy with other things that the half hour I usually set aside to read my daily scriptures is neglected and forgotten. A lot of times, it's my prayer life. I start out doing well at beginning each day with a prayer of thanks before I get up, and taking advantage of the quiet moments in my shower to spend in conversation with God. And then life gets busy again, and I tend to dwell on other worries or just let my exhaustion take over and not make myself focus on that enough. And then, of course, there are the little sins that love to sneak in when you let your guard down the slightest bit. So, as I notice the slips, I reach out and push that part of my life back in line, closer to where it's supposed to be. Not always as easy as when we rescue the tiny teapot from my shadow box, but the sooner I catch it, the easier it is. What about you? Do you have areas you have to push back every so often? Any you've discovered you're having to realign less? I'm working towards that.

I had a daily routine of getting up before the sun to study scripture, pray and write. That all had to happen before my morning commute to my full-time job.

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
