Mid-year Reading Challenge

How's your reading going this year? I've got to be honest. I've had good months and slower months, but somehow, I'm still on target.
For the last few years, I've set my "goal" as 125 on goodreads. Honestly? If I don't hit it, it's not the end of the world. But it is fun to go back and look at all the books I've read through the year. The ones pictured above are just from the last few weeks. If you want to see the others I've read this year, check here.

I haven't done many extra reading challenges the last few years because it was just getting too stressful in addition to everything else. And let's be honest. Reading should NOT be stressful. So, for the books I'm "requiring" myself to read, it's just the ones for my local book club. I'll list those at the bottom.
Everything else has been by choice.
Some of my absolute favorites this year have been (in no particular order):

• Tacos for Two by Betsy St. Amant (think You've Got Mail in taco trucks)
• The 80s Rom-Com club
• Love in the Squared Circle by Heather Greer (definitely a different take on a romance--a wrestler as the main guy)
• Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan
• The London House by Katherine Reay
• To Treasure an Heiress by Roseanna M. White
• A Match for Emma by Pepper Basham
• In Honor's Defense by Karen Witemeyer

And I'm probably forgetting a few, but those are the ones I LOVED, with all caps. I'm also enjoying reading through the Laura Ingalls Wilder books with my kiddos this summer. It's so fun to have them beg for one more chapter, because they're loving them, too.
In my book club, here's what we've read so far:

• The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop and Cafe by Mary Simses -- it was okay, but I probably won't read more by her.
• A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman -- I would've enjoyed this one way more if it hadn't been for all the bad language
• The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson -- a fun Cinderella retelling
• Peter Pan by J M Barrie -- interesting because it's NOT like the Disney version
• What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty -- really interesting, but way too much bad language
• Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen -- again, could've been a really fun magical story, but way too much language and sex
• My Dearest Friend (letters between John and Abigail Adams) -- not an easy read because the grammar back then was not regulated, but SO INTERESTING. The history-lover in me definitely enjoyed this one.
