So many people comment on how they don't understand how I can read so many books each year. How do I find the time? It's that key word there that is the wrong one. I don't FIND time to read. What? That's ridiculous! With so many other things going on in my life, so many jobs, being a mom, teaching Bible class, etc,, finding time must be nigh on impossible. But you see, I don't find time. Then how do I read so many books? I MAKE time.
See the difference? Finding is just doing something if I happen to have a few minutes to fit it in. Making is setting it as a priority. With so many other things going on in my life, why do I make reading a priority? Many reasons, honestly. For one, I love it. It's my way of unwinding each night. I love getting sucked into a story and not wanting to put it down because I want to see what happens next or how the author helps the characters get together despite their unwillingness. It's also an escape. When I have something I need to not think about for a while, I open the pages and focus on someone else's problems--ones I know will work out before the happily ever after. and since I mostly read Christian fiction, there's almost always a lesson to glean in the middle of the fiction, too. Sometimes even in the general market fiction, as well. And, of course, I also joke that it's research and author development. You see, the more different stories I read, the better I am at telling my own. Not to mention improving my own. And helping other authors when I do edits for them. Not reading during a day honestly leaves me feeling like I'm missing something. I don't even have to read for a long span. Some days I only have half an hour or so right before bed. But it's enough. I'm sure you have things in your life you make time for. Your favorite series. A scan of your friends' posts on social media. Reading the headlines of the days' news. Whatever it is, it's not something you readily miss. And something we probably need to give greater thought to, as well. What are other things we make time for versus finding time for? What are some things we might need to lower our priorities on? How do you feel about reading? Do you make time for it?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
