Easter is such a fun holiday. New dresses, sandals, eggs, Spring! Not to mention everything wrapped up in the hope of the Resurrection. The last few years, our family has added to all our traditions. I pick up a lamb roast from Aldi for my husband to grill. I make cheesy au gratin potatoes. We have homemade cinnamon rolls that morning. Can you tell I love foods associated with holidays? To me, food is a big part of our traditions. That being said, it hasn't always been easy to maintain our fancy menu. Another thing we've added to Easter weekend is a convention called Lads to Leaders. It's a huge event held at the Opryland Hotel, where our children can participate in Bible bowl, song leading, Bible reading, etc. and we spend tons of time with our church family. It's wonderful and our kids have grown so much in the last few years as they've stretched out of their comfort zones and studied the scriptures.
That being said, spending almost two full days away from home makes it hard to cook all those foods we love to eat. Especially when we don't get home until late Saturday. And then have Bible class and worship Sunday morning. So, we make it work. My office was closed on Friday, so I spent the morning prepping the potatoes and cinnamon rolls and doing laundry and packing. My husband grilled the lamb and wrapped it up so we could warm it back up Sunday in the crock pot. And it all worked out. Could we still have a great Easter without those dishes? Of course. But was it worth our time and effort to spend the morning prepping things so they would still happen. My family thinks so. Just because we've added other things doesn't mean we have to completely give up the things we already loved. Will there be a year in the future where we can't fit it all in? Definitely. But until then, we'll continue to make our traditions--old and new--fit in. What about you? What kinds of traditions, food or otherwise, do you love to keep at Easter?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
