When we finally started getting rain again after not having it for so long this summer, several of the showers came with some fairly strong wind. And when wind comes, plants get knocked around. Well, this sunflower was right at the part in growing where it couldn't handle the wind, and it bent. I contemplated propping it up, tying it with string to the tomato cage, something, but never did. A few days later, I came out and noticed this. Even though it was bent in the middle, the sunflower still grew. In fact, it wasn't growing the direction it had bent. It grew up. Just had a little part in the middle where it grew sideways.
So many times in life, we get pushed over, beaten by a wind of some sort, and it's very easy to give up. After all, gravity is a pretty strong force. But we have a choice. We can let the wind defeat us. Or we can keep growing anyway, leaving that little dip in our life as a reminder of whatever lesson we learned. It's not easy. And it may not leave the prettiest stalk for our flowers. But growth is growth, even if it has a bend in the middle. Even better if we're growing up (towards God). So, I choose to take a lesson from this sunflower. I want to grow, even if it means growing crooked. How about you? Do you find it hard to grow after being bent by a wind of life?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
