If you've been around here very long, you know I am a gardener. I love watching things (that I planted) grow and produce yummy veggies and pretty flowers. Weeds, I'm not so fond of, obviously. Just like always, we planted our garden this year, giggling as the little leaves started poking up, replanting where they didn't, clapping when we spotted blooms. And then it got HOT. Like, really hot compared to the last few summers. And dry. And plants don't really thrive as much when it doesn't rain. So, we've been watering almost every night. And coaxing the plants to keep producing at least a little longer. We're still putting up green beans (over 20 pints so far), picking a few tomatoes and squash, hoping for a cucumber or two, and crossing our fingers over the pumpkin and watermelon vines. And we are going to get one carrot out of the whole pack of seeds we planted. I have no idea why it works that way, but it seems to be a yearly thing with us. Our broccoli seeds never got bigger than seedlings for some reason. We may try those again in the fall.
The other problem we've been battling is whatever is eating chunks out of my tomatoes. So frustrating to see one almost ready to pick and then notice a big bite (or a lot of little ones) in the side. For the most part, we can cut that off and eat the rest, but still ... I look forward to homegrown tomatoes all year long. Those beasts need to leave them alone. Do you have a garden this year? What are you growing? Fighting any battles? I'd love to hear!

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
