I come from a family who saved every penny possible. While we weren't poor, per se, we were never rich, either. And after quite a few lean years through our marriage, too, even when we have extra money, we don't want to dash through it all at once, either, because we know we might need it more down the road. Maybe that's why I do this. I have a brand and scent of lotion I prefer more than others. It seems to be one of the only ones that works for my dry skin. So, I buy it when I catch a sale and/or have coupons, and keep a stock in my cabinet. But, the pump only gets so much of the lotion out of the bottle. When the lotion gets down to a certain level, it quits working. And I hate the idea of throwing away a bottle that still has an inch or more of lotion in it. But I'm also too lazy to twist the lid off and shake it out each time, too.
So, I stash the mostly empty bottles in my cabinet until I have several, and then I cut all but a few apart, and scrape them together into one, so I will have enough that the pump works again. Crazy? Maybe. But I can't stand wasting things. Does it really save me that much money? I don't know. But I think it makes me appreciate it more. Anything you have to work harder at is going to be given more value. And then, when I catch a great sale and coupon deal, I can rejoice even more that I have a bottle or two or three that don't need to be scraped out for a while. I wonder what life would be like if we viewed all aspects of it that way. What if we treasured things and people enough to save them and scrape all the good out of them we could because we don't want them to be wasted? Makes you think, doesn't it? Maybe our grandparents who didn't throw anything away that could be fixed had it right. What about you? Do you treat anything like that, making sure you get all the good out of it, even to the last drop?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
