Here in middle TN, Spring comes in March, then goes away again, comes and goes through April, and then feels a lot more like summer in May. From the moment the sun starts to even try to warm things up, I'm ready to get digging in my garden. Maybe it's from living eleven years in Texas where things warm up sooner, or maybe it's the daffodils which shine their happy faces so early, but it's hard to wait. Then, Lowe's and Home Depot have their big spring sales the second week in April. And I have to go buy plants while they're cheaper, right? My neighbor swears you shouldn't plant before May 1st. He says there's still too much risk of frost.
But once those tomato plants are purchased from the sales, well, they have to get in the ground, right? You see where I'm going? Yep. I always have to go out and cover up my tomato plants again after I plant them. Because there's always at least one more frosty night. Sigh. This year, I got a bonus tomato plant from a friend who started a bunch in her greenhouse and was only charging a dollar. It's pictured above. Looking a bit sad, but I think it will pull through. While the saying, "The early bird gets the worm" applies to a lot of situations, I think in planting, it might be one to avoid. Will this stop me from repeating my mistake next year. Probably not. There's just too much temptation to get out and dig once that sunshine warms up the earth. My garden is planted for the year. Here's hoping we get a good crop. We've got tomatoes, cucumbers (volunteer plants we moved to a different spot, but they seem to be doing okay for now), carrots, squash, pumpkins, watermelons, and sunflowers. If I can get the seeds to take, maybe broccoli, too. My three raised beds are full of seeds. Now, it's up to God. Do you ever rush into something you should've waited a bit longer for? Did the "frost" get it or were you able to make it work?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
