Sunflowers are some of my favorites. They have been since high school, when I talked my mom into decorating my room in them and wore them on t-shirts and skirts and earrings. While I don't have as many items with sunflowers on them now, I do grow them in my garden every summer. They're so happy and tall and always bring a smile to my face. This summer, we got the additional blessing of a few volunteer sunflowers popping up early and they're already taller than I am, reaching their leaves up high and getting ready to bloom. And as I look out my kitchen window through the day, I notice something. Something I had heard once, but not paid much attention to. Did you know that sunflowers follow the sun? It's true. The sun comes up on the side of my house where the garden is, and in the mornings, they're leaning more that way even before the flowers have opened up. And in the evenings, they're leaning more toward my house, following the track of our shining star all the way across through the day. It's pretty amazing.
And it reminds me that I should be doing the same thing. No. Not leaning toward the light source of our world. But leaning toward the SON. Following HIM. Because, if I'm always facing Him and watching where He goes, I know I'll be headed in the right direction, too. Isn't it amazing how God gives us these little reminders of what will help us most through this world? Have you ever noticed the sunflowers following the sun? What's something that reminds you of where your focus should be?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
