Have you ever thrown an axe?
No, that's not a crazy question. It's a new-ish trend from the last few years. There are escape rooms. There are putt-putt and bowling and other places like that. Or you can go axe-throwing.
I haven't been to one of the places in town that offer such fun, but last weekend, I was blessed to go on a retreat and it was an event we could sign up for.
So, of course I did. ;)
None of us realized when we decided to do this that we'd have to literally hike up a mountain to get there. But we were determined. And all but three of us made it. The others stayed at the bottom due to health issues. :(
Up the hill, we found a structure with six different stalls. Each stall had wire at the top and wood at the bottom. And at the end, a bullseye painted on some wood. Yep.
The axes we used were actually more like hatchets in my opinion. Pretty small and all metal. But I was okay with that because I probably would've hurt myself if I'd used a full-size axe. Ha!
We each got to stand and throw our two axes five times before switching. I was able to get it to stick three times. Not great, but still fun to try.
So, what do I do with this experience? I'm seriously thinking a future heroine is going to go throw axes in a book down the road. What do you think? Do you like it when book characters go on unique dates like axe-throwing? Would you like to try something like this?
This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
