I've never been rebellious by nature. Seriously. I'm not one of THOSE preacher's kids. ;-) The most rebellious act I ever did (except for the one time I "ran away" as a child by walking around the block by myself when I wasn't supposed to) was when I got my second set of piercings in my ears at the age of 19. My dad rolled his eyes and huffed about having two more holes in my head. So, when I reached my thirties and the trend of "peekaboo" color in hair started, I think everyone was surprised when I decided to join in. Including me. The first time I added some peekaboo pink to my hair, was the year before I finally got pregnant with my daughter. We'd finally started serious treatments to work at getting pregnant, I was working full-time, and I needed something fun and a little crazy in my life. I asked my husband what he'd think if I did it. His eyes got big, a smile spread across his face, and he said, "Do it."
My dad couldn't believe it, but I think he's grown to be mostly okay with it. The high schoolers my husband taught thought I was cool. And I loved it. Since those colors don't last more than about three months, I redid it that fall with some hot red streaks and loved that, too. If you look very closely in my headshot pictures on the back of my books and my website, you can still just a bit of the color in a streak near the side of my face. Since then, I've done it twice more, and now, I've added it again. It's my way of celebrating things, of letting go and allowing my creativity to show a bit more, of letting people see that I have this crazy, vivacious personality underneath which is always obvious at first. And my husband really likes it, too, so that's icing on the cake. What's something a bit crazy that you like to do every now and then? Have you found a different way to express your personality better?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
