Do you knowhow to do taxes? It's not something I ever had any interest in. In fact, they were rather intimidating to me. But for the last few weeks, I've been learning how to do taxes. Why? Well, because I've taken on a new part-time gig, working with a friend who is a CPA. I'm studying tax law and learning how to do taxes as well as getting ready to eventually help with people having trouble after filing taxes incorrectly. Sounds fun, right? Honestly, it's interesting to me to try and wrap my brain around all the why's and wherefore's of tax law, although quite a bit of it takes some major brain-power because there's lots of "if your situation is this, then, but if your situation is that, then this other thing," rules. But I didn't take this job for fun.
With two children in private school this fall, we needed a bit more income to make ends meet. And I can work my own hours within reason with this job, all from the comfort of my home on my computer. Two definite perks. Another perk: pretty sure I'll have a character in the future who works with taxes. What do you think? Should it be the hero or heroine? Or both? The downside is, I haven't quite figured out how to balance life and other things--like writing--with my new job. So, that's what I'm working on this summer. Should make doing Camp Nanowrimo next month extra interesting. So, have you ever taken on a job you didn't necessarily want, but discovered wasn't as bad as it could be? Do you look for the silver lining in life? Do you find taxes interesting?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
