This won't be the first Christmas we don't go anywhere. And actually, the thought of not travelling for the holidays is rather nice. Waking up at home, in our own beds, getting to do presents on actual Christmas day instead of early--yeah. I can get behind that. But one of the reasons behind it isn't really making me excited. I'm having a procedure done to my sinuses on the 22nd. That means I may be a little miserable over Christmas, despite the promise of a two-day recovery. Yay? It is a good thing, because it means maybe I can get some relief from the pressure that never seems to leave my head, no matter what. And that's definitely a great reason to go through with this.
And my in-laws are coming to us (not until late on the 24th, so I should be at least starting to feel better by then), and can help some with kids and stuff, too. My husband always cooks a duck for Christmas dinner for our family, so he's got that under control. And a lot of things I can make beforehand and freeze. I shouldn't be in the middle of any deadlines or projects. And a lot of presents I already have done and even mailed to those who won't see us. A different Christmas isn't necessarily a bad thing. It just means we can make different memories, see different lights, maybe even go see a movie as a family or curl up with one at home. And hopefully, we'll even start the new year better rested from having not travelled. We'll see. How is your Christmas looking this year? Are you doing things differently? Any big plans for starting a new tradition or renewing an old one that had to stop during COVID times?

I think 2020 prepared us for atypical holidays. I learned that Christmas lives in my heart. I haven’t tried to do without a tree ever. That might be really hard. But, since our huge family gathering was at Thanksgiving this year, I am content to heal from my ankle surgery this year. I have missed two holiday parties so far, and the third will be missed this Tuesday. But I am so blessed by an attentive husband, frequent contact with kids and supportive friends. That baby in the manger had quite an unusual Christmas, too!

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
