2022 Year in Books

How many books did you read in 2022? Did you count? I keep track on Goodreads. For the last few years, I've set my "goal" at 125, though it's not set in stone. It's an average that I know I usually hit/pass. This year, I passed it by more than 10, though there were a few points where I wasn't sure I'd make it.
Something I have discovered is that writing/editing more leaves less time for pleasure reading. But that doesn't stop me from reading for pleasure anyway. Reading is my stress-relief. And, I feel it helps me be a better writer, too. So, what did I read?

Well, I reread all six of Jane Austen's books. I still have a goal of writing a book about a girl who loves her and the guy who hasn't heard of her. ;) Had to do my research.
I reread the Bible--this time in chronological order, which is one of my favorite ways to do it.
Because I am now a content editor for Scrivenings Press, I had the pleasure of reading several books set to release early next year ... obviously they aren't on my Goodreads list yet. Be sure to watch for Jenny Carlisle's next book as well as Christina Rost's and Cynthia Roemer's. I enjoyed all three a lot. 
And because I'm good friends with Heather Greer, I got to read her next release early too. Definitely check that one out--1920s romance complete with gangsters and flappers. So good! I'll be sharing more about that later this month. It releases Jan 10.
For some of my top reads in already published books, here are a few in no particular order:

• The London House by Katherine Reay -- split time during WWII and current day. LOVED it.
• Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan -- all. the. feels. Seriously. Read it.
• Love in the Squared Circle by Heather Greer -- who knew a romance about a wrestler would hook me so well? So good!
• A Match for Emma by Pepper Basham -- I love all her books, but this one was loosely based on Jane Austen's Emma. So much fun.
• The 80s Rom-Com Club by various authors -- a collection of stories loosely based on 80s movies. Yes. I enjoyed them all.
• Tacos for Two by Betsy St. Amant -- Think You've Got Mail in a taco truck. LOVED it.
• The Rose Gate by Hanna Sandvig -- a fairytale retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Didn't want it to end.

Obviously, those are just the ones that stick out as favorites. I read a bunch more. If you want more details, feel free to check my Goodreads year in books. Some of them I left detailed reviews and others I simply rated. But I love to talk books so feel free to let me know if you want to know about some of the others I read. :)
And, for my book club, here's what we read:

• The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop and Cafe by Mary Simses -- it was okay, but I probably won't read more by her.
• A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman -- I would've enjoyed this one way more if it hadn't been for all the bad language
• The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson -- a fun Cinderella retelling
• Peter Pan by J M Barrie -- interesting because it's NOT like the Disney version
• What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty -- really interesting, but way too much bad language
• Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen -- again, could've been a really fun magical story, but way too much language and sex
• My Dearest Friend (letters between John and Abigail Adams) -- not an easy read because the grammar back then was not regulated, but SO INTERESTING. The history-lover in me definitely enjoyed this one.
• The Curator's Daughter by Melanie Dobson -- really good. Split time between the past and WWII.
• Blessed are the Misfits by Brant Hanson -- wasn't sure about this one, but enjoyed it more than expected. A look at Christianity from the perspective of someone with Asbergers.
• The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter by Hazel Gaynor -- this one I wanted to throw several times. Very sad, but moving.
• And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie -- my first Agatha Christie. There's something ... freeing ... about knowing everyone in the books is going to die and trying to figure out who is killing them.
• Christmas Tree Wars by Delores Topliff -- a cute little feel-good Christmas-y story.

I'm already enjoying January's bookclub read, but I'll share more about that next year. ;)
