Write what you know. That's what authors are told over and over again. Good thing author Heidi Glick knew about the EPA and CID agents, huh? Want to know more? Keep reading as she tells us about how she used her college experience to write her newest book. In 1999, I graduated from Cedarville University with a biology degree. I taught science to secondary students for a while, and later, I took a job working for a government contractor to the EPA and worked onsite at the Cincinnati EPA. There, I learned about EPA CID agents, and one year for NaNoWriMo, I started a story about an environmental crime. After my children were born in 2013 and 2014, I put the story aside for several years. I never forgot about the story and my ideas for sequels. The main characters have been my favorite to write about. Later, I edited the story and reworked it and submitted it for publication. The story is set in Cincinnati, where I lived and worked for ten years. In fact, I worked in one of the buildings mentioned in the book. Like the heroine, I enjoy reading, especially suspense and thrillers. Also, the heroine’s dad has ALS, just like my dad (who passed away in 2010). The most interesting part of my research was calling Cincinnati SWAT and asking an officer about evacuating a building, discussing a fake scenario, and hoping he believed my call was just for research. The officer I spoke to was kind and helpful. In fact, everyone who I’ve spoken to who has helped with research has been friendly. Like my other stories, I incorporate hope into the book through a redemption thread. I believe the Gospel offers forgiveness and freedom from sin and shame, and I hope readers benefit from that message and take it to heart. While the story is about EPA agents, the theme is not political. In college, I was a member of the Earth Stewardship Organization, and we worked on a pilot recycling program. Like my heroine, I believe in being a good steward of God’s creation, but at the same time, I feel we are to worship God rather than His creation. Gazing into Darkness is a romantic suspense involving a perfectionist Christian agent paired with an unconventional agent who isn’t on speaking terms with God. The heroine worked on a case several years prior, and now, others who worked on the case are being targeted. She and the hero must discover who is killing federal employees before it’s too late. Gazing into Darkness is the first book in the Queen City Heroes series and is published by Scrivenings Press. The book is available through Amazon and is available through Kindle Unlimited. Gazing Into Darkness Instead of moving closer to his girlfriend, Chance McPherson gets dumped and relocated to Cincinnati—farther from his dreams and closer to his shameful past. Stacey Sanderson is excited to finally secure a role in law enforcement, like the rest of her family, especially as an EPA CID agent, where she can protect God’s creation. On the job, Stacey’s perfectionism and faith rub Chance the wrong way, while his antics and wisecracks irritate Stacey. When federal employees who worked an old case with Stacey start dying, Chance becomes concerned, and not just because Stacey is his partner. Stacey senses a closeness between them but has vowed not to get involved with men in law enforcement and especially not someone who doesn’t share her faith. The anniversary of the case is creeping closer. Time is running out. Can Chance and Stacey stop the person who is out to kill her before it’s too late? Heidi Glick writes romantic suspense and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and Faith, Hope, and Love Christian Writers. This is a place for me to tell you about what I'm writing, talk about the process or where some of my ideas came from, or even have other authors come in and talk about their books.
