Above is my front flower garden. It might not look that big from this angle, but let me tell you. When it's time to pull weeds, it can take a while. Especially if you're like me and let it get away from you. So, lately, I've decided to pull a weed or two every time I walk by. This may seem like it wouldn't accomplish much. After all, what's a few weeds when there are so many others left? Well, let me tell you. By working in increments like that, and breaking it into a few at a time, it's not nearly as hard on my back and legs. And after a while of pulling two or three weeds each time I walk by, there won't be that many left at all. Instead of having to spend over an hour in the hot garden, I'm taking a minute here and two minutes there and doing it a little at a time. And it's much less daunting, too. Same thing goes for other chores.
Dishes. If I stay on top of them and load them a few at a time as they get dirty, it's not nearly as overwhelming as if I let them all pile up in the sink to do all at once. Cleaning. If I do one task each day like sweeping or vacuuming or straightening, it's not as intense as if I try to do it all at once. Even by picking up a few things and taking them back where they go every time I walk through the house, the living room ends up looking much better by the end of the day. Even in my writing, this applies. It's a bit daunting when I'm sitting at a blank screen and challenging myself to pound out 60,000 words. But if I break it into chunks. One chapter a day, for instance--about 2,500 words for me--is much more manageable and less scary. So many people say they want to read the Bible all the way through, but they don't have the time. But if they'd break it down into chunks, it wouldn't be as scary. I do my readings each day and it only takes about fifteen minutes. Three to five chapters a day. That doesn't sound so bad, does it? And, after I do it for so long, the Bible is read again. The story is written. The garden is weeded. The dishes are done. You get the idea. What is something you find daunting that you can break into chunks?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
