It's a super busy time of year, made even more so by the fact that I work for a tax firm who had a hard deadline last week. That's right. The tax season is finally winding down. But, it didn't happen easily. I work from home most of the time (for that job), which means I have to have internet. And the Friday before deadline, our internet ... disappeared. We happened to be gone most of that day, to hang out with my parents and spend the last day of fall break doing fun fall things, so we didn't realize the extent of the problem until that evening. After calling the company, and resetting the router about ten times, we were told they could send a guy out Monday afternoon. Reminder, this is Friday evening. That's three days without internet, and if your family is like mine, that means not only no social media and websites, but also no television because most of what we watch is through streaming.
I had an event that Saturday and was so glad I had most everything printed out for that (because our printer is also wireless and requires wifi). I went and borrowed the church internet for an hour Saturday afternoon to work just a bit. Then, Monday, I worked at the office, which isn't horrible, but isn't as comfortable as working from home. The guy came and looked at everything and discovered another company had inadvertently cut our lines when putting theirs in--they could be fixed the next day. That evening, I worked a bit more at the church building after book club. And then, Tuesday, I took my laptop to preschool with me and worked before school started and during quiet time. By the time school was out, the internet was back and I could go home to finish up the rest of the really long day. It all ended up working out, but whew! It was one of those instances where you never realize how much you rely on something until you don't have it. And we definitely rely on our internet working. (PS--that's why there was no blog last Monday, in case you missed it.) What's something you've lost for a few days and had to make do without? Did you realize how much you relied on it before it was gone? It definitely gave me a tiny taste of some of the things the hurricane victims have been doing without. I can't even imagine losing water and electricity too. What about you?

Running water and electricity are what come to mind immediately, although interrupted for only a few hours rather than days. We've had our internet interrupted, and it's frustrating.

At our house, we are adjusting to having only one vehicle. I am now the only driver, so it makes sense. But, that pickup truck came in handy for hauling stuff. Now, when we have something to haul away, we can’t just pile it in the bed of the truck. Takes a little more planning, and utilizing outside help. I remind myself that the real adjustment is for my hubby, who was used to just hopping in and going at the drop of a hat. Now, he has to wait on me. After 48 years, we know how to figure this out!

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
