From the years when our children were little bitty and couldn't sit still through until now, when there are still wiggles and moments it's hard for them to focus, my husband and I have had one goal. Bring our children up to love God. To us, that means being at Sunday school and worship services and all things in between. Every time the doors are open. We also sing hymns and praise songs around the house and in the car. We talk about God in our everyday conversations. Because they need to see God in us more than anything. But that doesn't mean it's always been easy. Bringing a baby to church sometimes means the mama doesn't get anything out of the services for a while because she's so focused on teaching how to be quiet. Or making sure cheerios aren't spilled all over the floor. Over the last few years, our children have started participating in the service more. Singing. Bowing heads to pray. Taking "notes" during the sermon.
And in the last few weeks, we've been blessed to be able to attend two different singing nights. Our family loves to sing. And with our rich heritage of a' Capella music, it's always better when with other people who also love to sing. My daughter is ten now. She knows quite a few of the songs, including some new ones. On one of the singing nights, the men leading us were teaching a song new to me. And my ten-year-old is sitting there, singing every word. My children had learned it during chapel at their school. And for once, they were helping teach me something new. And it made me smile. Because it's showing that maybe we're doing something right. We're passing on our love for song. And hopefully, in those songs, our love for God. And all I can think is, "Sing on!" Parenting is hard. But it's such a blessing. And moments like those are what we need to keep going, to not give up, to remember that it's all worth it. What's something you wondered about and then had your children give validation? Did your children ever end up teaching you something new?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
