I'm one of these people who sees a project and thinks, "Oh, I could totally do that." And, most of the time, I can. But, I'm also one of these people who takes a simple project and makes it ten times more complicated. For instance, on one of my many forays into pinterest, I discovered a book quilt. Have you see these? I have several pinned on my sewing board here. Check out how pretty they are. Shelves of books across the whole thing or personalized book covers that look like favorites. LOVE them! And then, my brain goes, ooh. What if you did a shelf on the bottom and top with the open and closed books in the middle. OR maybe a block with a tea cup or a cat mixed in. OR ... You get the idea. My creativity knows no bounds. Which is why I sometimes have to rein it in. Needless to say, since I've been swamped with all sorts of writing things and real-life things lately, too, I needed to find a way to get a bit of this creative energy out without going all crazy on myself and my family. Hence, small book pillows and a cute bag. These were made as gifts for various people, and I'll probably make more in the future, because they're really fun.
What do you think? It allowed me to try my hand at some of those styles, so I'll have a better idea of how to pull it off when I do get around to making my quilt -- because I really do want to. But it also kept me from taking on more than I can handle right now. And the recipients were all thrilled, so even better. ;-) Have you ever had to rein in your creativity and ideas? Wouldn't you love a book quilt, too?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
