I love me some dirt therapy. Do you know what I mean by that? Getting out and digging around in the dirt, pulling weeds, and nurturing flowers. I love it, despite how much it makes my legs and back hurt when I let the weeds grow up and take over like they have. Every time I've walked past my front flower garden this spring, I get mixed emotions. One is to cringe because of how badly I've let the grass and weeds take over. The other is to praise God for the beauty of His creation. Because, y'all. My flowers have been stunning this spring. I had daffodils, hyacinths, one tulip, azaleas and phlox all early. Now, I have irises, roses, and some delphinium blooming as the others fade away. And there, in the midst of all the ones I am wanting to grow, are those pretty little orange bell-shaped flowers. I have no idea what they are. I didn't plan them. They're probably a weed. But they're so pretty.
Sometimes, we look at something and think it's a weed. A bad thing. Something unwanted. But if we look closer, we see it's something that can bring beauty to our lives even if it wasn't something we had planned for. Like those cute little orange flowers. Do I still need to get out and weedy my garden? 100 percent! And it's also on my wish list for Mother's day to get some help with it. But that doesn't mean I can't see the beauty that is part of the mess. Those roses are shining over the tall grass and wild onions. And my delphinium make me smile every time I walk through my front door. So, I challenge you this week to go out and look for the beauty among the weeds. See if it helps change your perspective. What's something you considered a weed that you later decided brought beauty to your life?

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
