My daughter is a book worm, in case you haven't picked up on that. She reads every hour (and I mean that literally) she can each day. So, when she started talking about what theme she wanted for her birthday party this year, of course it took a bookish slant. At first, she went back and forth between just books in general or Nancy Drew. But since a lot of her friends are behind her in the reading department, we figured most of them hadn't read Nancy Drew. So, we went with a more general theme. From the invitations that started "Once upon a time," to the cake that looked like a book, the banner that read "Chapter 8," and the craft that was making a fancy bookmark, it was all to her delight. And when each and every present included books, even better!
Her favorite part, though? Probably the book worms aka gummy worms. Because, why not? She declared it a wonderful eighth birthday party, which means Mom feels successful too. Needless to say, another party is in the books. Get it? Have you ever held a book-themed party? What might you have added?

What a great theme for a birthday party! If you’d stuck with Nancy Drew, you could’ve made her cake like a treasure chest or casket, and had a scavenger hunt with bookish clues to solve a mystery. Maybe next year?

Laurie, that's a definitely possibility. I'd already thought of the scavenger hunt idea, but those are cute ideas for a cake. :) We'll see what she's interested in by then. Lots can change in a year!

This is a place for me to share thoughts and ideas not just related to writing. Thoughts about what's going on in my life, about an idea I got that I thought shareworthy, or just a funny anecdote.
